Zebra calves are able to walk and follow the herd just 20 minutes after birth. However, the first few days, the zebra mother stays very close to her baby, so that it learns to recognize her smell, appearance and cries. The mane of zebra calves is not only on the neck. It goes down to the lower back and reaches the tail.
Fun fact: When zebras are born, they have brown stripes, not black.
