The lower canines of a wild boar are called "tusks". They allow it to inflict painful wounds on its opponents (wolves or bears for example). In summer, wild boars like to wallow in the mud to cool off. This also allows them to protect themselves against parasitic insects.
Fun fact: Despite their rather clumsy appearance, wild boars are capable of running very fast.
